Artistic Area:: I am an abstract artist. I am inspired by Kandinsky's colour theory, Russian and Greek orthodox church mosaics and Bysantine jewellery.
Like Kandinsky I believe, that each colour has a certain spiritual meaning and can be used to describe and evoke strong emotions.
My favourite medium is oil paints. I divide my work into three groups:
Easter series are about the struggle to maintain faith, expressed through colour.
Blue square paintings are inspired by the Black square painted by K. Malevich during Stalin's purges and also by mosaics and Bysantine jewellery. I break the surface of these paintings into smaller squares, like mosaics or the surface of jewells, which reflect light differently and create the effect of something immaterial, the edges of these I paint with gold paint. A starry night, a mysterious light, hidden in the deep blue sky...
The Bloom of oneness and Fireworks is about the joy of being in love and Good Friday is about courage and fighting one's fears....

About Me:: I was born in St-Petersburg, Russia, the city of rich cultural heritage, the city of Malevich, Ahmatova, Dostoevsky and Kirov ballet. Unfortunately after the revolution of 1917, arts were put under the cencorship of the communist party and artists could not express themselves freely.
I was taught to paint by Vsevolod Churilin, assistant professor, Mukhina state academy of art and now live in West Sussex UK, taking part in a series of local exhibitions

There is a museum there of modernist russian paintings that was the collection of a man who lived there and hid them under his floorboards to protect them from communist suppression. There is an amazing collection of malevichs, and many others in this tiny house, hung salon style, it put them in a really much more interesting context I thought.
